Pattern of the Week: First Class Hoodie

I’m not a “business casual” kind of person. Everyone in the Interweave office would agree. Most days I wear the same pair of ripped blue jeans with a knit pullover or cardigan layered over an oft-worn t-shirt or tank top. Additionally, I’m most comfortable in hooded sweatshirts and have tried to start a trend at work—Hoodie Fridays (no one else participates). This is why I LOVE the First Class Hoodie from knitscene Spring 2019, a gorgeous wool hooded sweater designed by Cheryl Toy.

The First Class Hoodie is an everyday piece that layers nicely over a T-shirt, jeans, or even leggings. An elegantly simple eyelet rib pattern features prominently and provides some knitting intrigue, and the hood, a beautiful and practical addition, is attached with a three-needle bind-off.

My favorite color to both knit and wear is green, so I’m thinking about knitting this hooded sweater in the Verdant Green colorway from Cascade Yarns. Dark Peacock Green is in a close second place. BRB gonna see about finding this yarn . . . Stay tuned to see my green hoodie!

FINISHED SIZE 38 (42, 46, 50, 54, 58)” circumference at underarm. Pullover shown measures 38″; modeled with 3″ of positive ease.

YARN Cascade Yarns 220 Superwash Merino (100% superwash merino wool; 220 yd [201 m]/3. oz [100 g]): #69 golden palm, 8 (9, 10, 11, 12, 14) balls.

NEEDLES Size 3 (3.25 mm): 32″ circular (cir) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Size 4 (3.5 mm): two 32″ circulars and set of dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

NOTIONS Markers (m); removable m; stitch holders; tapestry needle.

GAUGE 24 sts and 36 rnds = 4″ in St st on larger needle; 24 sts and 36 rows = 4″ in Eyelet Rib patt on smaller needle.
