Pattern of the Week: The Verbena Cardigan (Plus a Surprise)

The Farmer’s Market story of Interweave Knits Spring 2019 is filled with casual weekend sweaters (and a hat!) perfect for moseying around in on spring weekends. The cover project for this issue comes from this story, and it’s aptly named the Verbena Cardigan.

This remarkably cozy cardigan, designed by Tori Gurbisz, is knitted seamlessly in a bulky-weight yarn from the bottom up. The textured fabric requires a simple stitch pattern, and the shawl collar, turned-back cuffs, and deep pockets give the sweater an extra-comfortable feel.

Needles Size 10 (6 mm): 40″ circular (cir) (affiliate link) and set of double-pointed (dpn). Size 10. (6.5 mm): 32″ cir and set of dpn. Adjust needle size if necessary to obtain the correct gauge.

BONUS PATTERN OF THE WEEK: THE CATTLEYA PULLOVER!

You may have noticed the sweater in the corner inset of the cover—the Cattleya Pullover! The Cattleya Pullover was designed by Paula Pereira, and its fabric echoes the beauty of the floral arrangements surrounding it in the photos.

The variegated merino-nylon yarn does most of the visual work in this top-down, seamless sweater, giving different knitters diverse color-pooled results. The boxy pullover calls for a tubular cast-on and a subtle slip-stitch colorwork motif that adorns the circular yoke and cuffs.
