Our Favorite Beaded Knitting Patterns

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

I love the look of beaded knitting. The sparkle of beads in lace, the gentle weight they add to a knitted piece, the extra challenge, all intrigue me. However, I have yet to actually try beaded knitting. It’s on a to-do list. An extremely long one.

Nevertheless, that hasn’t kept me from mooning after many beaded knitting patterns. Today, I wanted to share some of my favorites with you. We’ve put together a gorgeous collection of five beaded knitting patterns to help you get inspired. Take a look!

Art Deco Beret

If this is your first time knitting with beads, the Art Deco Beret by designer Grumperina is a great place to start. The project uses the pre-stringing method, and most of the body is worked in straightforward stockinette stitch. A little bit of elastic is used at the cast-on edge for a snug fit to this delightful beret.

Waxwing Shawl

No collection of beaded knitting patterns would be complete without a shawl from Susanna IC. Well, two shawls, actually, but this is the first of them. The Waxwing Shawl uses stunning allover lace and almost nine hundred sparkling beads to create a truly decadent shawl. Perfect for brides, the beads are placed with a beading hook rather than pre-stringing.

Jet Gloves

Using dainty beads and dainty yarn, the Jet Gloves by Rachel Erin are beautiful, finely crafted gloves to gift or keep. Between 400 and 500 sparkling beads glint along the cuffs, giving them extra weight and luxury. A slightly variegated yarn would work well for the stockinette body of the gloves. Consider echoing the color in your beads, or go with clear for a bright glint.

Titania’s Shawl

Our second Susanna IC shawl, Titania’s Shawl is an exercise in elegance. Originally published in Interweave Knits Summer 2017, the shawl uses lace-weight yarn and twinkling seed beads along a lace edge to create a sumptuous summer shawl, fit for a fairy queen.

Juliet Pullover

A romantic, opulent sweater, the Juliet Pullover by Robin Melanson combines clear glass beads, velvet ribbon, and a touch of lace for a romantic piece you’ll want to wear over and over again. Delicate beads dot this v-neck pullover, using the pre-stringing method, and a velvet ribbon runs beneath the bust and around the collar. Waist shaping and bell sleeves complete this romantic sweater.

I hope we’ve inspired you to try your hand at knitting with beads. Let us know how your beaded knitting projects turn out in the comments and, as always,

Happy Knitting,
Julia
