Celebrate the Season with Interweave Knits Holiday

Knitted shawl, cowl, and hat and mittens set
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

I’ve always felt that winter doesn’t get enough fanfare when it comes to knitting. Fall rides in on a wave of pumpkin spice, heralding itself as sweater season, and kicks off a return to all things woolly and wonderful. Poor winter, with its short days and long nights, becomes an afterthought. Yes, the swirling snow and frosty air are perfect for comfy cardigans and plush pullovers, too, but I think winter deserves to be celebrated as more than just a continuation of sweater season: It is, after all, the season of giving. Thus enters our new collection, Interweave Knits Holiday.

When it comes to knitted gifts, hats, mittens, scarves, and other small accessories are my go-to projects—essential pieces that keep you (and your knit-worthy friends) properly bundled against the cold. To mark the transition into winter and welcome in the holidays, we’ve pulled together a robust collection of our favorite knitted accessories, including cozy hats, mittens, and wraps.

Comfy Hats

In this special issue of holiday knits, there are over 10 hats to choose – ranging from infant to adult – and several include variations to choose from, making these patterns super helpful in filling out that gift list. If you’re newer to hats or feel confounded by the crown decreases, it’s Roxanne Richardson to the rescue with her “Shape Up” article. If you love to make hats and feel bold, you can also learn “How to Improvise a Hat with Stash Yarn” with Roxanne.

Scandinavian-Inspired

We took a journey through Scandinavian knits and brought the best projects to you for the upcoming season. The patterns are more complex, with colorwork and texture as stand-out features. Any of the hats, mittens, shawls, or cowls would make beautiful holiday knit gifts or a special treat for yourself. I’m going to work on a pair of fingerless gloves or the mittens from this issue for myself, I just might have to wait until after my holiday-gift knitting is complete!

Finer Things

If you have time to create a very special gift, be sure to look closely at The Finer Things collection. Here we’ve gathered an assortment of luxury wraps and shawls. The patterns in this section take a bit more time to complete, but you will have a delightful payoff.

Sweet Stuffed Critters

For fun and because we just LOVE Brenda K. B. Anderson’s critters, we included Murray the Musk Ox and Liam the Llama. These sweet, adorable little guys have stolen our hearts and know they will steal yours too! If you make one, please share pictures of them out in the wild. <3

I hope you’ll join me in celebrating the season by casting on a few of the gorgeous projects featured in this special issue.

Happy knitting,

Stephanie White, Editor
