1. The Killarney Tunic by Sarah Solomon

This oversized tunic is ideal for the sweater novice; the simple but entertaining slip-rib stitch found at the hem, cuffs, and sides keeps your interest, and the long stretches of stockinette stitch make this project ideal for zoning out in front of the TV, knitting with friends, or listening to an audiobook or podcast. Two Interweave editors have cast on the Killarney Tunic, but only one has finished it as of yet (the other is coming along!), but I can attest, she wears it all the time . . . because it’s me!

Miles of satisfying texture soothes the fingers and the soul while knitting the Madame George Pullover by Annie Lupton. This sweater is easily modified into an oversized, tunic-length sweater—just purchase two more skeins of Brooklyn Tweed Loft than recommended for your preferred size, and add a few more inches to the hem. Knitscene editor, Hannah Baker, already finished her Madame George (in green, of course), and wears it regularly. She also blogged about it here; find out tips and tricks to make any sweater fit you perfectly.

For cozy, cabled comfort, you’re unlikely to do better than the Angelina Pullover. This top down, simple, cabled yoke pullover is an ideal project for an intermediate-beginner to expert knitter. Read here about my own Angelina Pullover made for my mom this Christmas. It’s a beautiful design that unintentionally ended up as a tunic-length pullover—but hey, she loves it.

4. Tyk Cardigan by Kirsten Joel

This is the chunky, soft, oversized cardigan that nights curled up by the fire are made of. The Tyk Cardigan is worked in a super simple broken rib stitch on US size 13 needles for the body; this cardigan will fly off your needles in one weekend of knitting. Choose either of the Blue Sky Fibers recommended for the entire cardigan or Bulky for the body and Extra for the sleeves; we recommend using both to experience working with two beautiful yarns in one project.

5. Sentosa Pullover by Courtney Spainhower

The singular Sentosa Pullover by Courtney Spainhower is the perfect blend of simplicity and challenge. The yoke is worked in four pieces from the center out, and the body is worked in stockinette stitch from stitches picked up along the yoke, making for an engaging knitting experience. And the 100% Mountain Merino-Rambouillet wool makes this sweater cozy and long-lasting.

So what do you think? Are there more we missed? Let us know!

With love,
Meghan Babin
