3 Favorite Vest Patterns for Fall

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

Knit vests are so versatile and stylish, but I don’t make very many. I plan to change that this fall, and here are three patterns that have floated to the top for me.

Origami Vest

The stylish overlapping fronts are what makes Cindy Newhouse’s vest shine. The fronts are fixed in place, so this is an over-the-head vest. I love the sleek look, but it would also be nice dressed up with a special button on the right shoulder.

Seed-stitch edging brings in some texture to this asymmetrical beauty. Origami naturally hangs open slightly at the bottom, which makes the silhouette nip in at the waist in a flattering shape for any body. And fingering-weight yarn creates a wonderful drape. I love every part of this vest!

Estes Vest

Hexagon twist-stitch motifs and wide staghorn cables provide a slightly quilted look to the Estes Vest. Designer Hana Jason also uses i-cord edges, toggle closures, and deep pockets to keep the vest sporty. Attractive waist shaping helps make Estes flattering, not heavy.

I am a cable lover, and this design fits the bill in every way possible, from the allover cables to the button-up front to the POCKETS! It’s a must-knit for those of us who have harsh winters.

Tern Vest

Pam Allen designed this classic, combining wide collar styling with a textural stitch pattern. I think the Tern Vest is so pretty, whether it’s loose and open or worn closed with a special shawl pin. This is a real wardrobe builder—wear it over a dress or with pants and a long-sleeved tee—it’s great for the office or when you need that extra layer. I know I would wear this a ton.

As you can see, the sky’s the limit with vest patterns. There’s something for those of you who like a rugged look, something chic, or business-casual.

If you’re like me, you love all three styles. Hence, I can’t decide which one I want most—help me out and leave a comment with your favorite!

Cheers,

Kathleen
