Slipper Season is Near!

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

There are fall-knitting vibes in the air, and I’m thinking ahead to everything I want to cast on when the temperature truly drops. Not quite ready to cast-on for a thick sweater, I’m thinking I want something smaller to work on now that will come in handy when the summer is over. I think it’s time to knit slippers.

Slippers are great because you can make them so quickly. You can use a wide range of yarn weights, ideally even yarn from your stash. There are also many options in terms of look and complexity—these patterns can really run the style gamut. You can knit completely different pairs for yourself and everyone in your house, or making matching sets if you’re into that!

Favorite Knit Slippers

Here are a few favorite slipper patterns to tempt you!

The Easy Peasy Slippers by Lisa Shroyer

If you want to knit a pair of super simple slippers, try the Easy Peasy Slippers pattern. They are a great introduction to basic slipper knitting. You have two size options and only need a small amount of bulky-weight yarn, and the stitch pattern is accessible for all skill levels. Whip these up during a weekend movie!

If you want to knit slippers that are a bit more complicated, check out the Manitoba Slippers or the Pavo Slipper Socks. The Manitoba Slippers pattern includes three larger sizes (based on men’s shoe sizes), a textured pattern on the foot, and short-row shaping at the heel. The cuff flips down for some extra roominess! The Pavo Slipper Socks pattern includes an adult size and child size. Worked in a lighter weight yarn, these slipper socks have two cables running down each foot. Using a flecked or tweed yarn like the one in the pattern will really give these slippers some effortless character.

The Manitoba Slippers by Amy Polcyn and the Pavo Slipper Socks by Chrissy Gardiner

There are so many slipper knitting patterns out there, you are bound to find anything you might dream up if you search for it. As for me, these Suede Slippers look like what I need to cast on. I can wear them while I do my real cold-weather knitting later this fall and winter. What slippers do you want to knit for this fall?
