Jewelry Tools and More: Look What Happened at Bead Fest Philly 2018!
Another Bead Fest has come and gone–but we had enough fun, saw enough cool jewelry tools and supplies, and learned enough to last us until the next Bead Fest! See some of the Jewelry team’s highlights from Bead Fest Philly 2018–and make a note to join us for the next one! Bead Fest is the best way to learn jewelry techniques, stock up on jewelry tools and supplies, and have fun with friends new and old.
ABOVE: I love the patterned wire strip from Beadalon. It’s so versatile, for making bracelets and bangles, rings and bails . . . Notice how the golden ring is formed so that the pattern is on the inside of the band, but it shows on the outside of the curves at the top. Unique!
First, check out what we learned!
Learning About Jewelry Tools and Supplies at Bead Fest
The Interweave Jewelry Team, along with many vendors and artists, shared demos, workshops, and make-n-takes for Bead Fest attendees. Just wandering down the aisles, you could learn how to use various jewelry tools like pliers, hammers, stakes, metal stamps, rolling mills, and disc cutters.
Tammy Honaman, Editorial Director for Beading and Jewelry, shared beading on a loom demos as well as making colorful jewelry using alcohol inks and ICE Resin in Nunn Design bezels.
Karla Rosenbusch, Managing Editor of Lapidary Journal Jewelry Artist, demonstrated how to create beautiful green patinas on copper using only vinegar and salt! Can’t beat making jewelry magic with stuff you have in the kitchen.
On Friday, I shared how to create colorful heat patina designs on brass and copper using VersaMark ink, rubber stamps, and a micro torch. Another impactful and magical technique that uses simple supplies; the stamps and ink can be found at any craft store.
And these were just in the Interweave booth! Meredith Roddy demonstrated all kinds of exciting wire jewelry tools and supplies for Beadalon.
