5 Jewelry Projects Showcasing Green Stones
By Gabby Axner
With Saint Patrick’s Day celebrations and the start of spring coming soon, green is popping up everywhere! Why not tie green into your wardrobe by creating some jewelry showcasing gorgeous green stones? Try out these projects to show off your creativity this spring.
Malachite with a Twist Pendant by Kieu Pham Gray
Said to have positive effects on the body, such as absorbing negative energy, malachite is a very popular green stone. Copper is part of malachite’s chemical makeup and is what gives malachite its distinctive green color. But you don’t often see a copper splash such as the one on this pendant, making this Malachite with a Twist Pendant by Kieu Pham Gray a miniature work of art. Use floral-textured copper sheet for a touch of springtime and an eye-catching wire capture technique to contain a gorgeous malachite cabochon.
Reticulated Silver with Variscite Ring by John F. Heusler
Variscite is closely related to turquoise and can be a pale green to a dark emerald color. Whether you cut your own cabochon or purchase one, this Reticulated Silver and Variscite Ring by John F. Heusler is a real showstopper. The stone is set in a sterling silver bezel that shows off the stone and the reticulated band provides a one-of-a-kind foundation. John says, “Reticulation is not terribly difficult to do but it does take practice to master. You never know, though; the first time I tried it, I really liked the result!”
Ode to Orkney Pendant by Lexi Erickson
The Ode to Orkney Pendant by Lexi Erickson features an entrancing uvarovite garnet drusy. It’s a mineral said to heal emotional wounds and enhance power within oneself, and this pendant was inspired by Lexi’s travels in Scotland. She says, “The sparkling greenness of the land and the blowing grain and rain inspired me to use this uvarovite garnet drusy as soon as I returned.” Use the same techniques to set any triangular stone in your stash.
Opal Intarsia Pendant by Tom and Kay Benham
Believed to enhance creativity and luck, opal has become a staple in many jewelry boxes. The Opal Intarsia Pendant, designed by both Tom Benham and Kay Benham, combines opal with malachite and black jade. This iridescent beautfy flashes from green to red and black for what they call “intarsia without fear.” They recommend starting with a synthetic opal so you can master the technique before breaking out the really good stuff.
Spring Raindrops Earrings by Kathy Thompson
For a fast project that remains beautiful in its simple design, the Spring Raindrops Earrings created by Kathy Thompson are perfect. These earrings are perfect for beginners, as the most difficult part of the project is the wire wrapping. The earrings feature green aventurine, a stone said to be good luck, almost just as good as a four-leaf clover! Green aventurine can vary in its shades, making it an interesting and unique stone.
