Yarn Spotlight Extra 2

In the Interweave Crochet Winter 2009 issue, Yarn Spotlight focuses on different yarn options for the Painted Turtle Afghan by Edie Eckman. Here is another yarn option:

Silky Mohair
Lion Brand Yarn

details: CYCA 1 (super fine), .88 oz, 231 yd.
70% super kid mohair, 30% silk

colors: wisp 100, azure 106, sunbeam 157

hook: H

completed dimensions: 9.5 across, 11 point to point

This feather-light mohair works easily into a lovely motif with balance of color. Even with 28 motifs sewn together, this blanket won't weigh you down. The recommended H hook is just right. Keep your stitches loose to create the airiness; after just a couple of rounds, your fingers will find the right balance. The only tricky part is remembering to work each round's final stitch. This stitch is worked in the previous round's chain three, which tends to fade to a shy whisper amid the fluff. If you count the stitches on the final side, you'll be fine. The colorway of this yarn is identical to Cotton Ease, so you can make twin blankets for different seasons, or to suit different needs for warmth.

Happy crocheting!
