WWDD: 3 Crochet Swimsuits to Make this Summer
We’re looking at highs close to 100 degrees this week. What would Dudek do to beat the heat? Make a crochet swimsuit as soon as possible! Crochet swimsuits are the perfect projects for summer, and they’re pretty trendy right now too. Here are 3 swimsuits you can make this summer. No interest in a teeny tiny bikini? Keep reading for some great options for projects to wear with your swimsuit.
3 Crochet Swimsuits You Must Try
1. Mango Monokini
This trendy Monokini, designed by Jenny King, had its debut in Interweave Crochet Summer 2016. It’s been on my mind ever since. Crochet one-pieces have been so popular for the last few years and this pattern is a truly unique version of the popular swimsuit. It’s first on my list for projects to make this summer.
2. Coral Bikini
If you want to crochet a timeless swimsuit, this bikini from Interweave Crochet Summer 2016 is the one to make. Designed by Carolyn Calderon, this suit will work up quickly and keep you cool this summer.
3. Lily Chin’s Sport’s Illustrated Bikini
In one of Interweave Crochet’s earliest issues, Lily Chin describes her experience making crochet samples for the ready-to-wear apparel industry. Did you know she even made a sample bikini that ended up on the swimsuit edition of Sport’s Illustrated? She explains her process in the feature article of Interweave Crochet Fall 2005. See if you can follow along with her process and design a bikini of your very own! (shown on the right in the above image)
Not into bikinis?
Here are 5 projects that will look great with a swimsuit you already have:
1. Waterfall Necklace
This necklace by Jessie Rayot from Interweave Crochet Summer 2015 is a favorite. It adds a touch of glamour to a nice dress, a tank, or a swimsuit all summer long.
2. Gypsy Boxers
You’ve always wanted a pair of crochet shorts! Here is a fantastic pattern to try: the Gypsy Boxers by Doris Chan from Interweave Crochet Summer 2014. Pair with any swimsuit for pure comfort.
3. Capri Cover
Wow—this cover-up by Tammy Hildebrand from Interweave Crochet Summer 2012 has become a classic. It uses the pineapple stitch (one of my all-time favorite stitch patterns). It’s just what you need for summer!
4. Spiral Seashell Top
This adorable cropped-top designed by Nicoletta Tronci from Interweave Crochet Summer 2017 is just what you need to cover up a two-piece swimsuit. The top’s open back pairs well with a swimsuit underneath.
5. Jardin Hat
Shield those eyes from the summer sun with this beautiful lacey sunhat from Alla Koval from Interweave Crochet Summer 2017. Make it in a color that matches your favorite suit.
