WWDD: 7 Crochet Projects for Back to School

It’s that time of year again! For so many years of my life, I LOVED preparing to go back to school. I was so excited to reunite with friends, stock up on notebooks and pencils, shop for new clothes, and crochet myself something to impress my classmates. Although I’ve left my school days behind, I can still think of many fantastic projects to make in preparation for going back to school. Here are 7 fantastic projects to welcome students to a new semester.

1. Courageous Caftan

Everyone needs something special to wear on the first day of school. First impressions matter! Show off your mad crochet skills and your awesome style with the Courageous Caftan. This project looks hard to make, but it’s really just 4 rectangles sewn together. You can whip this up for the first day of class in no time! Find the pattern, designed by Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby, in Love of Crochet Fall 2017.

2. Varsity Jacket

back to school

One of the most exciting parts of returning to school is football season! It’s so much fun to show your school spirit at a game. Anyone returning to school will need a cozy sweater for school sporting events. Whip up the Varsity Jacket in your school colors. Find Shannon Mullett-Bolwsby’s pattern in Love of Crochet Fall 2017.

3. Library Cardigan

Every student spends a couple of nights stuck in the library working long hours on a project or paper. To stay cozy on those long evenings, you need the Library Cardigan. It’s perfect for cozying up with a textbook and even better for relaxing when all the studying is done! Find the pattern, designed by Nicoletta Tronci, in Love of Crochet Fall 2017.

4. Apple Picking Mitts

As the weather starts to chill, you’ll want to crochet yourself something to keep your hands warm. Designer Sue Perez’s fun mitts keep your hands warm while keeping your fingers free so you can take notes in class. Find the pattern in Love of Crochet Fall 2017.

5. Bed Head Slouchy Hat

We’ve all had those terrifying mornings when we sleep through alarms, have to skip a shower, and run into class just as the bell rings or the lecture starts. For those painful days (or days you just really need the extra sleep), you need the Bed Head Slouchy Hat to hide that bed-head hair. Find Brenda K. B. Anderson’s pattern in Love of Crochet Fall 2017.

6. Raspberry and Lime Purse

All students need a good tote bag for laptops, notebooks, pencils, etc. Work up the Raspberry and Lime Purse in your school colors to show your school spirit. The pattern calls for Aran-weight yarn and it is easy to follow, so you’ll have this handy bag whipped up in no time. Find the pattern, designed by Chloe Nightingale, in Interweave Crochet Spring 2008.

7. Sketch Set

Last but not least, returning students need a place to store all those freshly sharpened pencils. Work up designer Sarah Read’s Sketch Set pattern to store your school supplies in the nifty pencil case and cover your planner with the handy notebook cover. With this set, you’ll stay organized all semester long! Find the pattern in Love of Crochet Fall 2016.
