WIP Wednesday: Tackling Aitches

How many crochet projects have you started that need to be finished? I have an embarrassing number of such projects, commonly referred to as works in progress, or WIPs. But I vow I will finish them all!

One of the things I love most about WIPs are the stories people have about what they’re crocheting and why. Samantha, one of our graphic designers here at Interweave, is finishing up the Aitches from Knit and Crochet Toys. I asked her why she’s making them, and here’s what she said:

“I made the Aitches for my six-year-old son and three-year-old daughter for Christmas. I know they will love that they are poseable! I started making the first one before I bought the foam curlers. My gauge was off and it ended up too big (the ears extend past the foam roller at the top, so that part of the ear wasn’t poseable). I found the foam curlers at Sally’s Beauty Supply and was then able to check my gauge against them as I went. This project was so fun to assemble and once I got going on it, it worked up quickly since it’s all single crochet!”

Samantha mentioned that the curlers can also be found at most dollar stores. And if you’re looking for a yarn substitute, she recommends Berroco Weekend.

What a great gift idea! I’m sure Samantha’s kids will be thrilled to find the Aitches under the tree—I know I would be. I’ll be sharing WIP stories like Samantha’s every Wednesday, so be sure to check in and see what your fellow crocheters are working on. Share your WIP in the comments or in social media with #WIPWednesday.
