Welcome Spring with Interweave Crochet!
When I was little, I wanted to be a mermaid. I had a mermaid bedroom and mermaid swimsuits, and the thought of being a mermaid was the only thing that got me close to the big waves of the Pacific Ocean. I even put a skirt on my head so I could pretend I had long mermaid hair. Last year, when we talked about doing a mermaid-themed issue, I could barely contain my excitement.
The Spring 2019 issue Interweave Crochet features projects inspired by the shapes, colors, and textures of the sea. Crochet seems to be the perfect medium for capturing the look of coral or the spiral of a seashell. Learn captivating techniques such as Romanian point lace, felting, and using crochet thread to create objects that look like they’ve come straight from the coral reef. You will find endless beauty and inspiration in the projects reminiscent of mermaids in this issue.
And you won’t be the only one feeling inspired! Read up on 2 incredible textile artists who find creative nourishment in both the ocean and crochet. See how Vanessa Barragão and Julie H. Rose have taken the craft to the next level and are creating beautiful works of art with crochet while bringing awareness to environmental preservation.
If you’re in more of a landlocked state of mind, we have a collection of projects inspired by traveling the globe that will have you ready to pull out your crochet hook and head out on a journey. These pieces are made from beautiful crochet lace motifs, fun tapestry crochet, and even the loop stitch! You’ll explore the world in style with these stunning projects. Whether you’re headed out on an underwater adventure or trotting across the globe, we hope you’ll find something to make within these pages that stirs your spirit.
Thank you for crocheting on your journey.
