Tips for Crocheting Slippers

The sun is brightly shining as I write this, but a quick glance at the weather forecast shows snow, blizzards, and cold temperatures on the way. I guess that means I need to get started on a pair of warm crochet slippers right away. My feet get so cold while I work.

Choosing the Right Yarn

Your crochet slippers will see a good deal of wear, something to keep in mind when you are choosing your yarn. Choose a yarn with a tight twist. A blend with a bit of nylon or another stronger fiber can be a great choice. At the same time, choose a yarn that is soft and comfortable on your feet and ankles.

Creating the Right Sole

The area of your slippers that will likely wear out first is the sole. This is the area that sees the most friction and bears or weight when we walk. You have couple of options for creating stronger soles. You can create a felted sole; just remember that the yarn you use must be a yarn that can be felted, such as wool. You can also purchase premade leather or faux leather soles.

Embellishment and Color

Crochet slippers are like a blank canvas. How will you make them your own? You can crochet them in bright hues to bring some color to a winter white landscape or choose warm or soft colors that remind you of a relaxing evening curled up in front of the fireplace.

Crochet your own pair of slippers and keep your fingers warm as you are creating the perfect accessory to keep your feet toasty. Download several of my favorite crochet slipper patterns for the entire family and keep your entire families feet warm this winter.
