Introduction

My sister in law is expecting her 1st baby, and what better way to welcome the new addition, with a hand made crocheted baby afghan! I made this afghan in the colors of her choice, but certainly you may pick any colors or any type baby yarn you choose. The thing that makes this afghan so special, is the different textures from the different stitches on the blocks.

Materials List

1 skein baby yarn – while
1 skein baby yarn – yellow
1 skein baby yarn – lavender
1 crochet hook size J/10

1 large eyed blunt needle

Finished Size

40in. x 40in

Gauge

one block measures 8in x 8in

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Cluster (CL) Keeping last loop of each dc on hook, work 3 dc in st indicated; yo and draw through all 4 loops on hook.

Sc-tbl Stitch
Ch 27.
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 26 sc.
Row 2 Ch 1, turn. Sc in back loop only of each st across.

Rep (Row 2) 31 times more. Fasten off.

BLOCK II (make 9) YELLOW
Sc/Dc Stitch
Ch 26.
Row 1 Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 25 sc.
Row 2 Ch 2, turn (counts as first dc). Dc in next sc and in each sc across.

Row 3 Ch 1, turn. Sc in each dc across. Rep (Rows 2 and 3) 8 times more. Fasten off.

BLOCK III (make 8) LAVENDER
Cluster Stitch Ch 26.
Row 1 (RS) Sc in 2nd ch from hook and each ch across – 25 sc.
Row 2 Ch 2, turn (counts as first dc), CL in next sc; *ch 1, skip 1 sc, CL in next sc; rep from * to last dc, dc in last sc.

Row 3 Ch 1, turn. Sc in first dc and in each CL and ch1-space across to t-ch; sc in top of t-ch. Rep (Rows 2 and 3) 8 times more. Fasten off.

Sew blocks together, following diagram for placement.
Rnd 1 From RS, join yarn with slip st in upper right corner. * Work sc evenly spaced across top to next corner, 3 sc in corner space; work sc evenly spaced along side to next corner, 3 sc in corner space; repeat from * around, join with slip st to first sc.

Rnd 2 In corner space, (ch 3, 1 dc, [ch 4, slip st to 4th ch from hook – picot made], 2 dc) in same space, *skip next 2 sc, (2 dc, work picot, 2 dc) in next sc; rep from * around, skip last 2 sc and join with slip st to top of beg ch. Fasten off. Weave in ends.
