Swing Into Summer Crochet Style!
Hammock—the very word evokes images of relaxing on the beach or in a shaded backyard. Along with these images come thoughts of laughter as you watch friends and family try to climb on without rolling off! What would make this experience even better? Perhaps a glass of iced tea atop a coaster on a small table? Well, if that’s what you need, we’ve got you covered. Wait, covered . . . hmmm . . . maybe what you need is a blanket. Yes! You’ll definitely need a blanket, especially if you’ve placed your hammock in the shade.
Now that you’ve decided you need a blanket, which one are you going to make? You don’t want one that’s too warm—that wouldn’t make sense in the summer. So you’ve already eliminated many of the usual fibers. How about cotton? Cotton would be perfect! It’s lighter than most wools or wool blends and would definitely feel soft against your skin. The exact yarn will depend on the pattern, but there are many cotton and cotton blends that would be perfect for any summer stitching project.
One decision down, one to go. And, as you and I both know, the next decision will be the toughest—settling on a pattern. Seeing that it’s summer, you don’t want something that’s going to be too tedious. How about a blanket with motifs? That way you can work on it little by little, in between summer activities! Check out the Backyard Throw by Maria O’Keefe, from Interweave Crochet Summer 2017. This project meets all the criteria discussed above. It’s made with a cotton yarn and it’s made in motifs.
Hooray! Now all you have to do is pick up your hook and start stitching!
Happy summer and happy stitching!
