Style Watch: Love of Crochet’s Beach Inspiration

Sultry summer afternoons have a way of making me restless. One particular day, I found myself sitting at my desk, chin resting on my fist and staring at my email inbox. To be cooped up indoors while the summer passes by is almost unbearable. I sat back in my chair, frustrated, and heaved a heavy sigh. I absently picked up Love of Crochet Summer 2017 and began to flip through the pages. It didn’t take long for something to catch my eye.

The Martha’s Vineyard Tote by Anne Potter gave me reason to pause. The bag is chic and youthful. Paired with the Maritime Stripes Shawl by Stephanie Bold (shown in the header image), the look is a fantastic representation of summer on the East Coast. Much to my absolute delight, I discovered that the tote comes in a kit that includes leather handles and a button. Interweave Managing Editor Rachel Koon has her project mapped out, and Interweave Crochet Editor Sara Dudek is earning style points with her suggestions on how to accessorize this versatile tote.

My imagination kicked into overdrive, and I began to see myself walking along the beach, the tote slung over my shoulder, and the shawl flapping in the ocean breeze. I could smell the salt in the air and hear the sounds of children splashing in the water. I was in my happy place. I flipped through a few more pages of the magazine and nearly cooed when I spotted the Ocean Breeze Headband by Sarah Read (shown in the above header image). What a cute addition to my imaginary silhouette! All of these projects went on my list of things to crochet this summer.

My spirit began to lift, and then my phone rang. Isn’t it amazing how quickly reality can bring you back from the imaginary beach? Keep those visions of summer alive with this inspiring edition of Love of Crochet. Where are your crochet dreams taking you this summer?

Keep on hookin’ on,
-Dana Leigh
