Rectangular Diamond Trellis Basket

Esther Chandler

A rectangular version of the round Diamond Trellis Basket! The basket is worked seamlessly in the round from the centre base out.

You may use any stash yarn you have lying around – just hold a few strands together to increase the yarn weight. This project is good for using up any scratchy or stiff yarns as the texture will help the basket to hold shape.

Materials List

Around 450m of Aran and dk weight yarn each (hold a strand of each together).  You can hold several strands of dk or just a super bulky yarn by itself if you prefer.

Use a size 5mm hook or similar depending on your chosen yarn – the smallest size you can manage to still crochet smoothly with the bulky yarn.

4 stitch markers are recommended!

Finished Size

Example is 34cm by 24cm by 18cm.  You can customise this pattern to make a basket of your desired dimensions – instructions are included.

This pattern uses the diamond trellis stitch to add stiffness to the sides- a video tutorial is included.
