Pattern of the Week: Ever-New Skirt
No summer is complete without a crochet maxi skirt! The Ever-New Skirt, designed by Kristin Lynn, is sure to be a favorite project from Interweave Crochet Summer 2018! This eye-catching skirt skims your shape and shows off your curves. Wear it relaxed and low at the hips, or cinch the drawstring at your natural waist for a tighter fit. The skirt is worked from the top down, so you can try it on as you work to ensure the perfect fit no matter how you choose to wear it.
I struggle to make crochet projects to wear on my bottom half because I have such a unique body shape and I often can’t get the proper fit. I want to wear this skirt higher on my waist, but I don’t want excessive stitch puckering from pulling the drawstring too tight. Because I have a triangle body shape, I couldn’t find a size on the schematic that would fit both my waist measurement and my hip measurement. Solution? Use different sizes of crochet hooks! I’m using a smaller hook than what the pattern calls for to create the rounds up around my waist and switching to a larger hook for the rounds that fall near my hips. I’ve been trying the project on as I go to see when it makes sense to switch hook sizes, and so far the fit is spot on.
If you also struggle to find a single skirt size that fits your shape, experiment with different hook sizes to create shaping (the larger the hook, the greater circumference your stitches will create). And if you would like to add length at the bottom, simply repeat the final 3 rounds until you reach a length you love!
Create a project that fits you perfectly with the Ever-New Skirt. You’ll love the unique stitches and have so much fun making this garment! I recommend making this skirt now, because you’ll want to wear it all summer long!
