POW: The Courageous Caftan

I can say with utmost certainty, I have never been so excited about an issue of Love of Crochet as I am about the Fall 2017 issue. There are so many beautiful projects packed in it that I lost count. One project did not just stand out to me, it jumped out of the magazine and slapped me up-side my head. I’m talking about Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby’s Courageous Caftan.

This is a refreshing take on the traditional cardigan. It is a drapey sweater that is constructed from four rectangular patterns. With an appeal that I can only describe as “luscious”, the look is not just fashion forward; it is inviting. To maintain that appeal, I would stick with using the Malabrigo Sock yarn that is recommended in the pattern. The yarn is 100% super wash merino wool.

So many of the patterns in the fall issue of Love of Crochet deserve a second and third look. This is not just due to the finished appeal, but the diversity in sizing. The Courageous Caftan covers a variety of sizes, to include plus sizes. That is a thoughtful detail on the part of the designer that I can appreciate.

Remember, I could only choose one pattern of the week in order to meet the deadline for this post. I could have easily chosen five from this issue alone! Sadly, it’s not called Patterns of the Week. I highly advise you get your own copy of Love of Crochet Fall 2017. There are so many inspiring projects, you may not know where to begin!
