Popcorn Square Cushion Cover

Victorian Cushion

The raised stitch you can see is a popcorn stitch, made by working 5 stitches in one space and then closing them all up with the final yarn over. From Melody Griffith's 201 Crochet motifs…..
As the book described, it was quite easy to work up. The individual square forms a cross, but, when you stitch them all together you get a diamond pattern.I used Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Double Knitting on a 4mm hook. I stitched the whole thing to an existing ivory coloured cotton duck cushion cover with wooden buttons on the back. The biggest challenge for me was the fact that I had learned all the American names for stitches from Debbie Stoller, and now I had to keep translating in order to follow a UK pattern.
Debbie, fortunately, has included a 'conversion table' in her book (well the one I've got anyway – maybe it's not IN the US one!???).
