Traditional Romanian point lace involves creating a cord, then piecing it together with a netting stitch. The bottom part of the Mermaid’s Net Top, designed by Natasha Robarge, uses an abstract form of crochet cord connected with the double buttonhole stitch. This stitch creates a form of lace reminiscent of a mermaid’s net. If you’re feeling a bit intimidated about tackling this nifty form of lace-making, never fear! We include a full photo tutorial from Natasha on how she created this simplified Romanian point lace.

This top provides the opportunity to put together stunning color combinations. Try working the top in one color and all of the lace mesh in another for a particularly striking look. The possibilities are endless!
