Pattern of the Week: Balsam Pullover
In search of the perfect project to take on your winter travels? Look no further. The Balsam Pullover, on the cover of Interweave Crochet Winter 2019, is the project to pack and take on the road. Designed by Shannon Mullett-Bowlsby, this classic sweater won’t just be a favorite to make—it will also be a favorite to wear!
I’m preparing to travel around New York for the holidays, and I’ve been on the hunt for the perfect project to take with me. I’m ordering the yarn for the Balsam Pullover right now, so I’ll be sure to have it all packed and ready for my travels. I’m excited to take this project on my trip because the body of the pullover uses a simple linen stitch. This means I can pick it up, work a few stitches, and then run off to catch my next flight or bus without worrying about losing my place. Also, this project uses a lot of yarn, but Valley Yarns Valley Superwash DK (distributed by WEBS) comes in small 50-gram balls. This means I can pack just enough yarn in my carry-on to keep me occupied and easily keep the rest in my luggage. As the project grows, I can slowly add more yarn to my travel bag without worrying about being weighed down with a ton of yarn. Finally, I can’t wait to wear the finished project on my flight home. The ribbed cuffs and turtleneck make the project extra warm and great for layered outfits, and the extra length in the back allows me to wear it with leggings (leggings + cozy sweater = perfect airport outfit).
