One of My Favorite Patterns Gets Embellished

Do you have favorite patterns? You know, one of those designs that work up quickly, make excellent gifts, and always manage to find a way into your closet as well. One of those patterns for me is the Orchard Mitts design by Chelsea Norquay. I own two pairs of my own mitts and have crocheted many pairs for gifts.

The spike stitch texture creates a slightly thicker fabric that still retains great flexibility. Perfect for chilly evenings of crochet or afternoons on the computer. And I love the look of the texture. Spike stitch works well in both solid and variegated yarns, so the options are endless.

Recently, I started exploring a new possibility, embellishments. A couple of months ago, a copy of Molly Makes Crochet arrived on my doorstop. I was instantly in love with the Applique Flower.  I needed to find a project that I could embellish.

The result was a gorgeous pair of purple Orchard Mitts with a delicate white flower embellishment worked in fingering-weight yarn at the right wrist. Perfect!

My next project is a pair of navy blue mitts with a full flower on the left mitt and a partial flower on the fight mitt. But that is just the tip of the iceberg. The possibilities are endless.

Best wishes,

P.S. How would you embellish a pair of mitts?
