OK Fiber Fest!

Every spring, fiber enthusiasts meet at the fairgrounds in Okanogan, Washington for the OK Fiber Fest! This family-friendly event has an impressive list of vendors, farmers, and a great list of classes taught by local industry professionals. Learn about the journey of yarn from the farm to your needles, starting with live sheep shearing demons. I had the opportunity to speak with Vicki Eberhart, the president of the Northern American Wool Co-op and event director for OK Fiber Fest, about this amazing festival. Just wait until you read about their Wool & Wine event!

Gus: Tell me about the history of OK Fiber Fest!

Vicki: This is a celebration of FIBER & the ARTS in Okanogan, which is the host town & county for fabulous vendors from all around Okanogan County, the Pacific North West, Washington and beyond. Vendors provide quality materials for everything imaginable to begin your new project or to resurrect a skill from the past, and rediscover the creative joys in the art & craft of the Fiber Arts world.

Gus: Pretend you talking to someone who has never been to your fiber festival, what would you highlight as your “WOW” attractions?

Vicki: This unique festival features the renewal of “North American Agricultural Signature Products” such as “Wine & Wool”. We centre the event around Fabulous Food including Freshly made Mexican & BBQ served from Food Vans , as well, a 4H Students Food project; under careful instruction by trained Cooks & Chefs. Elements of food craft include, the traditional Ploughman’s Platter and a morning or afternoon “Devonshire Tea” created from locally sourced fruits & vegetables. Now pair this with the local wines of Esther Bricques Estate Winery & Vineyard (who will be onsite for wine samplings) along with the backdrop of music from our local musicians and you begin a journey into the Okanogan Valley’s relaxed, but colorful lifestyle. Another highlight, is the Saturday night dinner at the 12 Tribes Resort Casino with our annual Fiber Fashion Show. The festival is free with onsite demonstrations, along with valuable instructional educational workshops conducted by Artisans from near and far for a very reasonable fee.
