The Pattern

Top Band:
Using smaller hook, ch 95. Join, taking care not to twist. Place marker for end of rnd.
Next rnd: Sc in every stitch around. Join rnd with a sl st.

Repeat last row 4 more times.

Change to larger hook.
Next rnd: *Ch 5, sk 3, sc in next st. Repeat from * around. Join rnd with a sl st in the base of the first ch at beginning of rnd.
Next nd: *Ch 5, sc in next ch-5 space from the row below. Repeat from * to end.
Although it won’t look like it, at this point you’ll be working in a spiral which means that when you come to the end of the round, you’ll simply join by sc in the 1st ch space of the same row.

Repeat the last row 18 more times ending with a sc.

Ch 1, sc in next st and every st around (approx 115 sts). Join with a sl st.
Next rnd: Ch 2, dc in next st and every st around. Join with a sl st.

Repeat the last row 2 more times. Tie off.

Turn bag inside out, pin bottom together and sc a straight seam across.

Weave in ends.

Fold the bag in quarters and place 2 pins on front and back of the top band for even strap placement.
Pick up and sc 5 sts at 1st pin placement on front of bag.
Next row: Ch 1, sc in 4 remaining sts. Turn.

Repeat last row for 14”/35.5cm or until strap is desired length. Tie off. Join by either whip stitching or crocheting strap to top band at 2nd pin placement.

Repeat entire process on back of back. Weave in ends.
