You Need This Love of Bees Notions Bag Set!
Can you ever have too many notions bags? I don’t think so. In fact, I seem to collect them. I make them, I buy them, I store them in my craft room, and then I quickly fill them. (More problematic than my notions bag collection is all the projects I start and can’t seem to finish, which is why I need more notions bags!) If you’re like me and you need another notions bag—and if you’re loving this summer’s bee trend—you need our Love of Bees Notions Bag Set kit!!
Around this time last year, I watched the swatches for AlterKnit Stitch Dictionary float by my desk on their way back to author Andrea Rangel. I was captivated! They were the most exciting and innovative colorwork swatches I’d ever seen. Almost immediately, I started thinking about how crocheters could use AlterKnit. I shared Crochet Corner’s motif experiments in the post “AlterKnit Goes Crochet,” and from there, the idea took off! I turned to Brenda K. B. Anderson, one of my favorite crochet colorwork designers, and she created this incredible notions bag set with one of the colorwork motifs from AlterKnit Stitch Dictionary. Now you can grab the kit and make this adorable notions bag for yourself (and feed your notions bag addiction).
The kit includes HiKoo CoBaSi yarn from Skacel in Seattle sky and gold crest (one skein in each color). The yarn is a blend of cotton, bamboo, nylon, and silk, making it lovely to work with. If you plan to make both the larger notions bag and the smaller stitch marker bag, make sure you check your gauge: the two bags use almost all of the two skeins of yarn included in the kit, so working to gauge will help ensure you don’t run out of yarn.
The kit also includes the 10-inch zipper in gray for the notions bag and the 4-inch zipper in yellow for the smaller stitch marker bag, plus a sheet of 9-by-12-inch gray craft foam to provide structure for the bottom of the larger bag. The pattern for this project includes instructions on how to create your own fabric liner, so this is your chance to customize your notions bag however you like! Fabric remnants, often on sale at the craft store, are perfect for making a liner. Bring your yarn to the store if you want the fabric to match the colors of your bag.
If you want to take your customization beyond the fabric liner, you’ll want to pick up a copy of AlterKnit Stitch Dictionary; with 200 motifs to choose from, you’re sure to find one you want for your notions bag. The bee motif included in this pattern is 17 stitches across and 15 rounds tall, so if you decide to use a different motif, make sure it’s a similar size.
