Lace Crochet for Galentine’s Day
The 16th episode of the second season of Parks and Recreation opens with Leslie Knope throwing what she terms a “Galentine’s Day” party for all her female friends on February 13. It’s a day for the characters to celebrate the bonds of female friendship, and the fictional holiday became so popular that it’s now celebrated out in the real world.
Parks and Recreation is one of my favorite shows, and the idea of Galentine’s Day really resonated with me. For my part, I have a lot of lovely lady friends who go above and beyond for me. They help me get ready for events, they read over my writing and provide valuable feedback, and they offer me a sympathetic ear. What better way to celebrate these lovely ladies – many of whom are crafters themselves – than by giving them something handmade! I’ve been in a particularly lacy mood of late, so below you can find, in no particular order, three of my favorite crochet lace pieces that might just be perfect for your own Galentine’s Day celebration.
Galentine’s Day Crochet
This delightfully lacy hat is the perfect three-seasons Galentine’s Day gift for your friends. Using only one hank of yarn, the open-work stitch pattern gives the hat a slouchy look and a great deal of breathability.
A delightful Galentine’s Day gift for everyone – any Ellas included, of course – this sweet headband is a quick project to whip up. The pattern uses a short-row lace technique to create the alluring design, and an elastic band is used to join the ends together during finishing.
This delicate accessory set is a perfect gift for friends – or for yourself! The light, cotton crochet thread combines with seed beads to give just a bit of weight to otherwise airy pieces.
