Interweave Crochet Fall 2018: Urbane Hat and Cowl

Urbane Hat and Cowl
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

If you’re looking for a Tunisian crochet set that’s unique and challenging, Kabila Sri Ponnusamy has come up with the one for you. She joins a soft yarn and a repeated stitch pattern to create a hat-and-cowl set that anyone would love to have sitting in their closet for crisp fall days. Featured in the pages of Interweave Crochet Fall 2018, the Urbane Hat and Cowl may be this season’s accessory set that you simply have to make – for yourself.

Cascade Yarns Llamamerino mixes baby llama and merino wool for a yarn as soft as a cloud and perfect for keeping heads and necks warm. You might think there’s no way that this set, weighing in at a #2 sport, can keep you warm. However, Tunisian crochet in the round allows you to work on with one color and off with another, creating what is essentially a 2-layer project. When you’re wearing 2 layers, you’re sure to be warm and snuggly.

The technique of Tunisian crochet in the round should give you enough of a challenge to make this pattern worthwhile. But, if you’re still not convinced, you should know that the set also uses both the reverse Tunisian simple stitch and the Tunisian knit stitch to create the zigzag pattern in both the hat and cowl.

So, a soft yarn and an intriguing pattern—what more could you ask for? Get your double-ended Tunisian hook out and get started!

Happy stitching!

Susanna
