Take a Peek Inside Interweave Crochet Summer 2021

It doesn’t feel like summer as I compose this editor’s letter for the Summer 2021 issue of Interweave Crochet (a common sense of asymmetry, given how magazines operate on a schedule that is rarely in sync with the seasons). It’s late March, and although a few warm days have showered us in sunshine, there is currently snow on the ground, again. Colorado does love its spring snowstorms.

Regardless, my mind is racing ahead to picnics with friends, beach days, and barbecues. All the things that make summer so magical suddenly seem possible again—COVID-19 vaccines are finally available to anyone age 16 or older in Colorado. It’s sooner than I expected, and my dream of traveling across the country to spend the Fourth of July with my parents is finally possible. I hope you, too, are feeling optimistic about the months ahead.

Crochet Patterns for Summer

While it won’t take much to make summer gatherings feel special this year, we’ve collected some gorgeous crochet patterns to help make your return to public life even more celebratory. Our “Summer Soiree” story in this issue is full of cute tanks, elegant wraps, beachy coverups, and more. And, if you find yourself hosting friends this summer, we have some adorable tropical-fruit-themed crochet home décor to punch up the party—everything from a grapefruit pillow to a lemon rug. You can see all the projects in this issue in the slideshow below.

Thanks, as always, to our talented designers for sharing their creativity with us. In this issue, we also reflect on the contributions of three iconic designers who have graced the pages of Interweave Crochet over the years and changed the way we look at our craft. Dora Ohrenstein, Lily M. Chin, and Doris Chan have taught me so much about crochet through their designs, and I hope they’ll continue teaching us for years to come.
