Have You Met Our Index Yet?

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

When you think of indexes, do you think of index fingers, or maybe the Dow Jones Industrial Index? Well, more useful information can be found in an Interweave magazine index. All of our magazines maintain indexes that are updated at least yearly. Editors rely on them, and you may find them useful, too! Here are 3 ways to use your favorite Interweave magazine index:

1. Look for designs.

You may look to Ravelry for knitting and crochet patterns, but the Interweave magazine index offers thorough listings of designs by subject. Sure, you can search for projects that use brioche or color-and-weave, but you can also look for knits with acorn motifs (there are 2!) or crochet projects that feature circles. Indexers comb through the patterns and track special characteristics, just in case someone might want to weave a wedding dress some day. (If you do, Handwoven September/October 2010 might be right for you.)

2. Research techniques.

Are you eager to learn more about how to filet crochet or add zippers? To find techniques from decades of your favorite Interweave magazines, look no further than the index. There’s no better way to track down a great how-to article than looking it up in an Interweave magazine index. Pro tip: Check indexes for different magazines that may include a technique. You can find filet crochet in Interweave Crochet, PieceWork, and even Spin Off.

3. Jog your memory.

I remember reading an article about brioche knitting in one of my first issues of Interweave Knits, but I can’t remember which issue it was. I remember the color of the samples but not what was on the cover. Thanks to the index, I know that Nancy Marchant wrote that article for the Spring 2005 issue.

So if you haven’t met our index yet, what are you waiting for?
