Happy Hand Turkey Thanksgiving!

Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

As an ode to Thanksgiving, some Interweave staff got together and cranked out serious hand turkey action. They went beyond the construction paper angle, and included fiber along with many other choice accoutrements. Gathering together yarn, beads, googly eyes, felt, feathers, and more, these team members came up with what can only be described as a turkey glove hand turkey. Let’s meet these silly characters and the crafters who made them!

Social Media Manager Andrea Lotz took the embroidery floss route with her hand turkey creation. Her attention to detail, like an eye stitched as an “x” (a bit true-to-life, no?) reveals something about her character: she loves to knit lace.

Jenna Fear, Editorial Assistant, clearly let the bling lead her. Behold the sparkly pipe cleaner! Jenna also attached a felt waddle to her project using a bit of thread, stitched the beak, and sewed on the bead eyes. Not a surprise, as she is big fan of embroidery.

Managing Editor Rachel Koon presents… Disco Turkey with a beaded twist! Rachel’s craft supplies were adhered to the glove with a hot glue gun – and look at the variety in her choices. It doesn’t get any better than gold sparkle ribbon for tail feathers.

Laura Hulslander’s hand turkey stands out as an example of purism in design. Laura is one of our knitting technical editors. She committed to stitching every piece of her decor, and look how it turned out. Well done!

From Editorial Assistant Hayley DeBerard, we’ve got a shining example of what can be done with both stitching and hot glue gunning. I am loving those little embroidery details coupled with pipe cleaners on the “feathers.” Way to make the colors pop!

Last but not least, Associate Editor Sara Dudek did a little bit of everything. Between the feathers, the hot glue gun, the crocheted beak and red hat, these guys definitely deserve a place at the table!
