Falling into Crochet Lace
I am so excited! The bite of fall was in the air this morning, and you know what that means-hats, scarves, and sweaters. But the cooling temperatures of morning and evening and warm sunny days are not yet ready for bulky wool and dense fabric, so why not try a cool-weather accessory that pairs a traditional silhouette with warm-weather crochet lace?
The traditional accessories of winter add the perfect touch to fall fashion, while the negative space in the lace keeps the pieces from being too warm. Let me show you what I mean.
The Road to Bruges Scarf is the perfect fall lace accessory. The openwork pattern of the ribbon like lace creates not only phenomenal drape but also just the right amount of warmth. Pair this scarf with a short-sleeve shirt for a little warmth and a lot of fashion or a jacket for both even greater warmth and fashion.
Shawls are the classic accessory for cool evenings. One of my favorite shawls is the Midsummer Night’s Shawl. This delicate lace triangle is worked in 100% wool, but the intricate openwork lace makes it perfect for those nights when you just need a light wrap.
Everyone knows that you lose a lot of heat through your head. My mother and numerous fall camping trips taught me early to reach for a thick wool hat when I was cold. But when the temperatures are just below chilly, a hat stands the risk of making you too hot. Lace hats, like Audrey’s Lace Cap, are the perfect middle ground.
