Exploded Pineapple Afghan

In American Colonial times, pineapples were so exotic, costly, and hard to get that they became a fashionable luxury. Later, as a decorative motif in wood carvings and needlework, they became a symbol of welcome and hospitality. In this design, the iconic crocheted pineapple assumes another aspect, of of a breezy, exploded gauge, afghan style. It also makes a sweet lightweight shawl.
