Exploded Crochet Lace

Crochet lace can create amazing shawls and wraps in light fingering or lace-weight yarns. But I love when the delicate stitches of lace are worked in thicker DK or worsted-weight yarns and crafted into garments and accessories. To me, the contrast between the thick yarn and the negative space of the lace reflects the transition of the seasons, from winter to spring and spring to summer.

The Interweave Crochet 2012 issues contained a wonderful variety of chunky lace patterns. I'm trying to decide which one I should start first. Can you give me a hand; which would you crochet first?

Crochet Lace Cowl

Ghost Cone Scarf

I immediately fell in love with the unique construction of this cowl. Loops of chain stitches are worked like broomstick lace, creating a fabric unlike any I have seen before. The texture of the chain stitches creates texture in the broomstick loops. A row of buttons creates a focal point. DK-weight yarn makes this a quick project.

Crochet Lace Vest

Trellis Vest

Worsted-weight yarn and a simple lace stitch pattern make this gorgeous crochet vest an easy layer for winter or spring. The wide ribbed waistband creates flattering shaping with simple back loop only rib stitches. I also love the fact that this pattern is sized all the way up to a 60" bust.

Crochet Lace Tunic

Capri Cover

Top-down crochet construction means you can try on this tunic as you crochet for a perfect fit. Originally designed as a cover-up, this top is gorgeous over a t-shirt or tank top and paired with jeans. I especially love the exploded pineapple motifs. Additional repeats of the pineapple motifs make a gorgeous dress.

Crochet Lace Scarf

Madeline Stole

A giant repeating pineapple motif, worked in DK weight silk yarn, create a gorgeous lace scarf. I love the texture created when this crochet lace collapses around the neck and the way the pineapple fans out when draped vertically. A complete stitch diagram makes this the perfect project for visual crocheters.

You can get all of these fabulous lace projects, plus a variety of shawls, sweaters, tops, skirts, hats, cowls, bags, and more for one really great price.
