Dressing for the Crochetscene
Crochetscene isn't your common crochet magazine. This debut issue features a modern collection of patterns, each with a unique twist on classic techniques and silhouettes. I don't know which patterns I want to crochet first, the cutting-edge designs or the retro garments and accessories. The patterns were kept easy enough for beginners, and many make fabulous quick gifts.
The Molecule Cowl (at left) is definitely on my gift list. I have a friend who has already made several of these quick cowls. The interplay of chains and solid diamonds are easy to work but create a one-of-a-kind accessory.
The use of chevrons as waist shaping in the Sierra Sweater (below right) is brilliant, and I can't decide whether I would prefer this top at the shown length or as a short dress. But perhaps my first project will have to be the Delia bag.
As you know, I love crochet motifs, and the contrast created by solid crocheted squares stitched behind lacy motifs of the Delia Bag (below left) is subtle and beautiful. Plus you don't have to worry about sewing in a lining.
I could go on, but here is Marcy Smith, Crochetscene's editor, to tell you more about this brand new special issue.
Welcome to our inaugural special issue of Crochetscene!
Inside, you'll find a bonanza of on-trend fashions designed to be made in a flash. For newbie crocheters, we've included a step-by-step guide to the basic stitches, so you can get going right away. From there, you might want to head to our Chain Reaction collection. These projects explore the potential of the most basic of crochet stitches-the chain-with terrifically wearable results.
Then perhaps you'll find joy in the Granny-inspired collection. See our step-by-step tutorial, then expand your granny skills with the projects in the We ❤ Grannies story. Between these and our other four stories-Bowled Over, In Full Bloom, Free Spirit, and Stereophonic-you're sure to find a fashion that reflects your style-even if you decide to change that up tomorrow!
And tucked in among the fabulous garments and accessories, you'll find several great projects to add spark to your living space: pillows, baskets, and a throw.
