The Crochet Winter Hat Pattern That Has It All

This isn’t your ordinary crochet winter hat pattern; this is a hat with it all. It has puffs and pom-poms, cables and color. But the best part about the Vanilla and Spice Hat pattern….

It isn’t the delightful combination of stitches, or the pom-pom (which you can make with this handy tutorial), but actually the bulk. With proper gauge and yarn, this hat can keep you warm from polar vortex to normal winter day.

It’s the combination of cables and puff stitches that makes it so cozy. As you start, you’ll work the cable from side to side and seam it to create the body, then work the puff stitches in the round to create the brim. Finish up with your custom pom-pom and you have a hat worthy of winter.

Quick tip – After placing a marker in either brim or crown, be sure to move the marker up as work progresses. There’s nothing fun about realizing you needed to move the marker, but you already took it out rows ago.

YARN Lion Brand Yarns Scarfie (affiliate link) (78% acrylic, 22% wool; 312 yd [285 m]/5.3 oz [150 g]: #206 cream/taupe, 1 ball.

HOOK 6.0 mm (J) (affiliate link)

GAUGE 6 stitches and 5 rows = 2 inches in 6 sts and 5 rows = 2″ in puff st patt; 8 sts and 6 rows = 2¼” in cable patt.
