The perfect time to make sweaters is coming up quickly. With it being the holiday season, many of us have longer weekends or are even stepping away from work for a bit to relax with family and friends. And hopefully your handmade gifts are done, or close to it! This open time is ideal for getting started on new projects and even a time to teach those around us the craft of crochet. Here are some crochet sweaters I absolutely love that I hope you’ll consider starting during your break.

Hawksbill Turtleneck

Turtlenecks are a classic a winter essential. The Hawksbill Turtleneck by Jill Hanratty is a beautiful project that will keep your neck warm in the coldest winter weather. This heavily textured sweater has a relaxed fit and has a stitch pattern reminiscent of stars. The sweater is worked in the round with a worsted weight yarn for maximum coziness and quick knitting. This sweater is perfect for sitting by the fire with your favorite mug of hot cocoa.

Suave Sweater

If you are teaching a relative or friend how to craft this season, or are learning yourself, the Suave Sweater, made by Isa Catepillan, is a wonderful project to start with. Anderson, will become your favorite over-sized cozy sweater. This crochet project is constructed sideways which creates vertical ridges reminiscent of a knit Shaker sweater. Whether you are making this sweater for yourself or for another, it’s a great project to cast-on.

Mesa Pullover

Mock-neck sweaters are a must-have in my wardrobe and Lily Chin’s Mesa Pullover is one I’d love to add to my collection. This sweater is made using a small double-ended crochet hook to create the two-tone pullover. If you haven’t already learned this technique, the long break is the perfect time to perfect your skills and start on this project once you get the hang of it. This sweater will be a piece you will want to wear over and over again. Stitch it up in your favorite colors for your own personal touch.

Ripplet Sweater

I have seen checkered patterns all over the place recently. While this trend may feel too bold for some, there are always ways to try a trend out without diving right in. The Ripplet Sweater, by Jill Wright, has a rippling pattern that looks similar to the popular checkered pattern but with a softer edge. This sweater is stitched up in an ultra-soft yarn blend of baby alpaca, Merino, and bamboo. Use two contrasting colors for a bold look of use similar hues for a more subtle pattern. This project also involves making a matching cowl, perfect for cooler days.
