Your Crochet Summer Adventure Just Started
Summer is about adventuring. The leaves are green, the days are long, the weather is warm, and it’s the perfect time to discover new places and try new things.
And what an adventure it has been making the Summer 2017 issue of Interweave Crochet! For me, the adventure into summer started all the way back in January, when a crocheter (myself) and a knitter (Lisa Shroyer) hopped on a plane to California, escaping the Colorado snow for our summer photo shoot. We were hosted by the sweetest family: our friends Nate, Kira, Sandy, Jude, and little Harlow. They opened their home, the Harper Point Studio, and the most perfect camper trailer to us, all while taking the most beautiful photos and ushering us around to all the best photo spots. We’ve been longing for summer to get here ever since!
Interweave Crochet Summer 2017 captures that spirit of adventure. Travel to the ocean with 7 light and airy projects that let in the ocean breeze. Our Summer by the Seaside story features tops, wraps, a glamorous dolman cardigan, and a beret that’s perfect for taming those tresses after a windy walk by the surf. Continue the adventure in your own backyard and throw a crochet garden party! Make 12 exciting projects perfect for garden gatherings.
For a fancy get-together, try the Garden Party Table Topper made with ornate filet crochet; it’s an open and airy technique fit for summer projects. If you need to brush up on filet or are new to the technique, learn from filet expert Kathryn White in “7 Tips & Tricks for Perfect Filet Crochet.” As an avid lover of filet crochet, I wish I had known all these tricks years ago!
Further the adventure and read about the crochet culture of Mexico. Susanna Rigg of Mexico Retold uncovers the unique partnership between family-owned Omega Yarn and its U.S. distributor, Creative Yarn Source. The partnership between these women will leave you feeling inspired. Finally, if reading about Mexico gives you the travel bug, we have products and books perfect for packing in your suitcase and taking on the go. So gather your crochet projects and get adventuring!
Finally, a huge thank you to everyone that has put so much time, effort, and love into this magazine. Thank you to Lisa Shroyer, Dana Bincer, Susanna Tobias, Kit Kinseth, Kerry Jackson, and Rachel Koon for their many hours of hard work.
I hope your summer is filled with many adventures, but most of all, I hope it’s filled with adventurous crochet projects. Happy stitching!
