Crochet Project Diary
I finished something! It is a pair of crochet mitts, so maybe I should say I finished two somethings (does that count? I think it should).
It all started as a pile of fluff. The mitts are for my husband, and I took him to four yarn shops, only to discover that I have married a yarn snob. The red in that one was too pink. This one might itch. He didn't know exactly why he didn't like that one, but he didn't.
|The pattern my hubby and I chose together was Doris Chan's One For All Family of Mitts from the Interweave Crochet Accessories Special Issue (he fell in love with these when he modeled them—isn't he handsome? And that's my little boy, too!).|
|I have been spinning for about 5 years, but infrequently enough that I still feel like a beginner. This was the first time I tried to spin something thicker rather than as fine as I could. It wasn't as difficult as I had feared, but I didn't get quite worsted weight. I was able to get the stitch gauge in my swatch with a 4.5 mm hook, but my rows were too tall. I liked the fabric I was getting though, and my hubby has large hands, so I subtracted rows only from the cuff, and followed the pattern for the rest. I omitted the cable because I wasn't sure I had enough yarn to include them.|
|I really like how they turned out. I may make a pair for myself —I won't be quite so finicky about the yarn. Or maybe it is time to tour the local yarn shops again!|
|Until next time,
