This basic crochet stitch provides additional stretch to stitches, making it perfect for children's garments such as the Summer Blues Baby Dress. It is also perfect for garments like the Pretty Pleats Skirt and Noontide Tee which are crocheted from fibers with minimal elasticity such as cotton and linen. Marcy Smith, Interweave Crochet's editor, offers a wonderful intro to how to crochet  this stitch in her blog Blo-by-blo Lessons in Where to Put the Crochet Hook.

I've added the back loop only stitch to the list of skills I have learned from Interweave Crochet. Next on my list, Irish crochet. Subscribe today so that you don't miss out on the wonderful techniques and cutting edge patterns.

Best wishes,
