Create Your Own Crochet Holiday Home Décor

Star Flakes crochet pattern by Sue Perez
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

It’s just about that time of year when I begin to decorate my space for the holidays. It’s become almost a family tradition at this point. As soon as the first week of November had passed, my mom would declare that it was time to start bringing down our seasonal décor. Hot chocolate is made, and music is played. This year, I will not be decorating with my family but instead will be decorating a space of my own! We’ve rounded up a few of our favorite crochet holiday home décor patterns that I’m personally adding to my queue.

Choose just one of these patterns to incorporate into your existing collection of holiday décor, or get the whole collection to fill your home with holiday cheer.

Polaris Pillow, by Maria O'Keefe
Polaris Pillow by Maria O’Keefe

Polaris Pillow

Pillows are some of my favorite pieces to decorate with. The Polaris Pillow, designed by Maria O’Keefe, is a pillow that you can leave out all winter. This pillow project is a breeze to take on the go, as you will stitch each motif separately. The project features a unique motif that gives the appearance of windowpanes, or even peppermints if you choose the red and white color scheme. This cozy piece is one that you’ll be excited to lay your head on when complete.

Starburst Pillow by Jill Hanratty

Starburst Pillow

While I love all pillows for holiday décor, texture is a big part of my selection process. The more texture, the better. The Starburst Pillow by Jill Hanratty features a classically beautiful pattern throughout. The pillow is made up of puff, post, and cluster stitches, which give the pillow its heavy texture. The pillow looks intricate due to the various stitches used, but is actually a fast project once you get in the groove. This pillow looks beautiful on any couch!

Grand Fir Garland and Bough by Kathleen Berlew

Grand Fir Garland

A holiday décor must-have for me is garland. It’s an easy way of making a space feel cozier and more cheery. The Grand Fir Garland and Bough, designed by Kathleen Berlew, is made using various shades of green yarn—perfect for stash-busting! This pattern allows you to bring festive tree branches and leaves into your home, but without the mess. This project is perfect for crocheters of all skill levels. Beginners will be able to perfect simple stitches and more experienced stitchers will work the garland up quickly. Once complete, the garland and bough will enhance your perfect holiday space.

Nestled in Stripes Afghan by Tamara Kelly

Nestled in Stripes Afghan

Blankets and afghans always get me ready for the cooler holiday season. The Nestled in Stripes Afghan by Tamara Kelly pairs colorful yarn with a muted hue to create a piece worthy of display. This afghan pattern calls for bulky yarn and uses simple stitch techniques, so it can be made rather quickly. Switch out the colors to give this blanket and your space a different feel or to make it a more seasonal piece.

Star Flakes by Sue Perez

Star Flakes

One decoration that my family never goes without is stars, sprinkled throughout a space to add festive cheer. The Star Flakes, designed by Sue Perez, will be a hit in your home. These stars are worked up quickly in size 10 thread and can be made in an endless array of colors. The stars are multi-purpose, making great gift tags, window decorations, and even delicate tree ornaments. To make these beauties last a lifetime, stiffen them with glue.

Make your home shine this holiday season with festive decorations. These crochet holiday home décor pieces are timeless and will last through the years. The pillows and blanket can even be used through multiple seasons with their subtle holiday feel. We hope you love decorating your space with these patterns as much as we do!
