Crochet Amigurumi, Geek-Style
I am very grateful to crochet for a lot of things, and one of those things is how well it lends itself to any genre. You can have antique or ultra-modern crochet, or very serious artistic crochet, or silly crochet…any kind at all.
This post is going to be a little silly.
As much as I love pouring over very sophisticated and elegant crochet techniques, I'm a bit of a geek, and I love to express my geeky love in simple crochet form. I particularly love making geeky amigurumis. I don't worry about keeping track of stitches or writing patterns down (as the characters are usually copyrighted anyway), so each one is like a freeform make-it-up-as-you-go adventure. Here are a few of my favorite creations!
Fluffy, form Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone. Made from scrap bits of wool and thread.
Alice, from Alice in Wonderland. She is only 2.5" tall, all in size 10 thread.
And the 10th Doctor Who. Made from acrylic, hemp, bamboo, and thread bits.
Amigurumis are quick, fun, and make great gifts. Especially for geeks. I know there are more of you out there!
Until next time,
