The Best of Brenda K. B. Anderson’s Cute Amigurumi Crochet

Grahame the Badger, by Brenda K.B. Anderson
Let the Interweave Knits Winter 2024 issue transport you to a winter wonderland of cozy knits! This remarkable edition features 14 extraordinary projects to immerse yourself in the uniqueness of specially crafted yarns.

I have a confession. I love stuffed animals; I always have, and I always will. As I’ve gotten older though, I’ve become more interested in gifting them to my nephew than keeping them for myself. I can be rather picky about the gifts I choose and opt for pieces that will last longer than others. I especially enjoy making for my loved ones. We’ve compiled some of our favorite amigurumi crochet patterns by none other than Brenda K. B. Anderson, author of Beastly Crochet, [affiliate link] that will excite the pickiest of toy makers with their cute style and clever designs.

About Amigurumi + Tips for Success

Amigurumi are crocheted or knitted toys as well as a Japanese artform. While these projects are often small and not too complex, it is important to know some tips before getting started. We have a whole article elaborating on these tips as well!

  • Make sure that you take your amigurumi project one step at a time. Planning too far ahead or working on multiple parts at a time gets confusing. Keep it simple to remain stress-free!
  • Remember that you will need to include stuffing your project as a step in the process. This means that your stitches will need to be tight in order to avoid leaking. You can use a smaller crochet hook to achieve this if you have difficulty with tight stitches.
  • Facial expressions are key when putting your final product together. Eyes, mouths, and eyebrows all work together to show various emotions. Make sure to take your time with this!

Little Llama

For a little project with a lot of heart, look no further than the Little Llama. This llama’s exaggerated features make it an extra adorable must-make. The expression can easily be changed by altering the placement of the llama’s eyelids. Make sure you like where they are before stitching them into place.

Remember to follow and read up on the tips before embarking on these amigurumi crochet patterns. I am already planning on making these projects in the near future to add to my nephew’s steadily growing collection of toys, but should I start off with Little Llama or Grahame the Badger? Decisions, decisions.

Happy crafting!
