Boteh Scarf Special
The Boteh Scarf is one of the most popular crochet scarves ever published by Interweave Crochet. This simple motif scarf reminded designer Kathy Merrick of Persian carpet Boteh (Old Persian for "cluster of leaves"). This classic motif can look like leaves, pine cones, pears, or paisleys. And the wool/nylon blend yarn used creates a beautiful drape and the perfect touch of warmth for a spring evening.
The crochet pattern is the perfect travel project. The stitch diagram lays out the pattern repeat and the motif repeat is easily memorized-not to mention exciting to watch grow. The modulating curves of the tiers of this graceful scarf create the ideal casual elegance. Wear it with your favorite tailored jacket and jeans or add wear it with a classy dress for a bit of warmth.
The innovative construction of the Boteh Scarf is created by working each curving triangle perpendicular to the previous triangle. The first row of the triangle is worked in half double crochet with each row decreasing in number of stitches, creating the triangle. Then double treble stitches are worked into the row ends, giving the triangle its distinctive curve and providing a base on which to begin the next triangle. The process is repeated until the scarf is seventy-two inches or your desired length. The construction of this scarf makes it incredibly easy to modify. Make it a few motifs shorter or one motif longer.
