Bon Vivant Stockings

Finished Size: Directions are given for size Small (S). Changes for Medium (M) and Large (L) are in parentheses. Length of stockings can easily be changed and is noted in pattern. Stockings measure 9½ (10¼, 11)” (24 [26, 28] cm) around calf; 6¾ (7½, 8¼)” (17 [19, 21] cm) around narrowest part of ankle; 6¼ (7, 7¾)” (16 [18, 19.5] cm) around foot. Stockings are stretchy and are designed to be worn with 3½-5″ (9-12.5 cm) of negative ease at calf. Stockings measure 9″ (23 cm) from corner of heel to tip of toe; 15″ (38 cm) from corner of heel to top edge of stocking. Stockings fit US Women’s shoe sizes 8-11. Notes for shortening or lengthening (the foot and/or calf length) are written in pattern. Sample shown is size M.
Yarn: Fingering weight (#1 Super Fine). Shown here: Misti Alpaca Tonos Carnival (50% alpaca, 30% merino wool, 10% silk, 10% nylon; 436 yd [400 m]/3½ oz [100 g]): #TF04 chestnut, 2 skeins.
Hooks: Sizes C/2 (2.75 mm) and B/1 (2.25 mm). Adjust hook sizes if necessary to obtain correct gauge.
Notions: Stitch markers (m); yarn needle.
Gauge: 30 sts and 56 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in sl st in blo with smaller hook. 30 sts and 36 rows = 4″ (10 cm) in main st patt with smaller hook (see Stitch Guide). Rows 1-10 of pineapple motif pattern (worked with larger hook) measures about 4½” (11.5 cm) long. Finished pineapple motif measures about 12″ (30.5 cm) long × 4″ (10 cm) wide (at widest point).
