Basketweave Mitts: Master Edgeless Crochet Cables
Post stitches worked in a basket weave pattern make for a stunning accessory, and Laurinda Reddig added a neat "twist" to the design with her Basketweave Mitts from Interweave Crochet Accessories 2014. The cables are worked in an edgeless design, with the selvedge stitches worked under the top three horizontal strands of the stitch below, in order to create a more seamless look.
This stitch pattern creates a basket weave look on the RS (even numbered rows) and a ridged look on the WS. On RS rows, you will skip three stitches, work front post stitches in groups of three, and working in front of the stitches just made, you will work post stitches around the skipped stitches. On WS rows, you'll be working back post stitches and working behind stitches. It can be a bit tricky to find the post stitches buried under other stitches, but giving your work a bit of a stretch will force any stitches out of hiding.
When the rows are complete, the glove is seamed up the side, with space left for a thumb opening. This easy finishing makes it a great simple gift, and once you get a hang of the stitch pattern, it's a quick gift as well.
Here are some step-by-step photos to help walk you through the stitch pattern.

The swatch may seem a bit rumpled, but some blocking will help even out the texture and straighten all the stitches.
