Award Winning Gifts

Kim Werker's book Crocheted Gifts: Irresistible Projects to Make & Give won the 2009 Flamie for best Crochet Pattern Book. It is brim-full of great, innovative designs by top designers such as Doris Chan, Kathy Merrick, Robyn Chachula, Annie Modesitt, Kristin Omdahl, and many other friends and regular designers for Interweave. Twenty-five fantastic projects will suit everyone on your gift list, for any occasion.

I chatted with editor (and fellow blogger) Kim Werker about her Flamie. Here's what she had to say:

Interweave wanted to create a crochet sister to its book Knitted Gifts. I approached curating the book similarly to how I approached curating an issue of Interweave Crochet at the time, but with a much more focused theme.

I wanted to include patterns involving interesting techniques, luscious materials, and unexpected twists and turns. When we crochet for others, we should enjoy it as we stitch, and maybe even try something new (but maybe not! I made sure to include beautifully simple projects, too).

My role in creating the book was mostly to have that curatorial vision and to work closely with the designers to pick yarns and colors and make decisions that make the book lovely and enjoyable as a whole. It's the designers that did the rest; they came up with fairly amazing concepts for gifts of every sort, and I had a blast and learned a lot from them as we worked together.

I'm so flattered and excited that the online crochet community chose this book as a favorite. Thank you, crocheters!
