A Cold Snap Shawlette
This simple crochet shawlette recipe can be customized to your preferred size (or, to use up just the right amount of yarn!). This shawlette is perfect for accessorizing, keeping you cozy when it gets suddenly cold, or protecting your neck in air conditioning. Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable, a self-patterning yarn, does all the colorwork for you.
Basic crochet stitches: chain, double crochet, single crochet, slip stitch
Working in rows (for shawlette and border)
Working in the round (for edging)
Crocheting in chain spaces, skipping stitches
Increasing and decreasing with special stitch patterns: dc2tog, dc5tog (with written explanations in pattern)
Intermediate (or adventurous beginner!)
Red Heart Boutique Unforgettable (100% acrylic, 3.5 oz/100 g/280 yd/247 m) – 2 skeins in 3943 Stained Glass, or approximately 280 yd (247 m) in any medium weight yarn. PLEASE NOTE: I used exactly 1 skein of yarn for this project, so if your gauge is different than mine, you may run out before finishing. That’s why I recommend getting 2 skeins just in case.
US Size H/5 mm crochet hook, or size needed to obtain gauge.
3 locking stitch markers or scrap yarn.
Adult. 52.5” (159 cm) wingspan x 8.5” (21.5 cm) spine after blocking.
18 sts x 7.5 rows in pattern = 4” (10 cm). Exact gauge is not critical for this project.
